My Love for Jane Austen

Inspired by Advent calendar theme over at Jane Austen Variations last year, author Leslie L. Diamonds has written a newest Pride and Prejudice contemporary holiday romance titled Unwrapping Mr. Darcy . Due to be published on Halloween, this is a perfect time to save up and purchase this novel. Besides the usual characters and a plotline similar to the original masterpiece where Darcy insults Elizabeth but falls in love with her, it also features a cat named Grunt. Who wouldn't resist getting to learn more of the story specially when a cute black cat is depicted on the cover? I know I wouldn't. To tide things over while waiting for the official release, Leslie has planned a virtual book tour which had just begun yesterday. There are more Pride and Prejudice variations published these days compared to those from other genre like prequels and sequels if you have been a long time reader of Austen-themed stories. It could be that the scope to play around with the characters and stories is fairly limited whereas with variations authors can devise countless ways in which Mr. Darcy end up with Elizabeth Bennet. Of course there are a few successful continuations which became a series such as The Pemberley Chronicles by Rebecca Collins which comprises ten books and Sharon Lathan's The Darcy Saga . Prolific author Victoria Kincaid has done it again! Pride and Prejudice can easily translate well into our contemporary world as the themes present in Jane Austen's masterpiece are universal. Many authors have attempted to adapt the novel with varying degrees of success. But one particular standout is debut author Belén Paccagnella's Obstacles which was just released early this month. Setting her story in the competitive world of equestrian sport is a unique take on the beloved characters created by Ms Austen in my opinion.
