2011 Austenesque Challenge Wrap-Up

Forgive my tardiness in updating my blog because lately I have been quite busy since last month. Anyway for my annual round-up, here's a look at the challenges that I have committed to participate ending on 31 December 2011. Both of the two challenges are hosted by the amazing and talented Austenite blogger who runs Austenprose and editor of Jane Austen Made Me Do It short story anthology, Laurel Ann Nattress. These are the tasks that I have successfully completed and my review follows: Being a Jane Austen Mystery Reading Challenge 2011 Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor by Stephanie Barron The Sense and Sensibility Bicentenary Challenge 2011 From Prada to Nada (2011) The Three Weissmanns of Westport by Cathleen Schine The Dashwood Sisters Tell All by Beth Pattillo Although the list is slightly different from my initial plan, sad to say that I failed to achieve my goal of completing two books for the first challenge and I still have one more task ...

Definitely Not Mr. Darcy: Book Review

Rating: ★★★★½/★★★★★ Definitely Not Mr. Darcy is Karen Doornebos's first foray into the writing world. I came to know her through Austen Authors blog posts where she is now a regular contributor to the Austenesque writing community. I did not hesitate to read this Austen-inspired romance as the premise sounds interesting and I wonder how the people of Jane Austen's time really lived without the glamourous, peaceful and luxuries we have come to associate with based on watching the film and television adaptations of her novels. Chloe Parker is a thirty-nine-year-old Chicago divorcée and a single mother to her eight-year-old daughter named Abigail with a failing antique letterpress business and unpaid bills and mortgages. Thus she agreed to participate in a Jane Austen documentary in the hope of winning the prize money of $100,000 in addition to generating PR for her business and securing Abigail's future. Armed with a thorough knowledge and understanding of Jane Austen...
