Rating: ★★★★/★★★★★ Sense & Sensibility by Joanna Trollope is the first book in The Austen Project which aims to bring Jane Austen's major six novels to modern audience by re-writing and updating them. As someone who loves reading Austenesque literature, I put this book ahead in my reading list and was truly rewarded with a satisfying story. However I should warn you that I have not had the pleasure of perusing Ms Austen's original work. As such, my understanding of the plot and characters comes from viewing the beautifully filmed Ang Lee 1995 movie starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet in addition to the equally excellent and most recent BBC mini-series adaptation . As in Austen's Sense and Sensibility , the novel is split into three volumes and begins when Belle Dashwood and her three daughters, Elinor, Marianne and Margaret were forced to vacate their family home of Norland Park following the untimely death of Henry Dashwood. Happy 238th Birthday, Jane Austen! My Jane Austen Book Club is hosting a virtual celebration of the big day and so I would like to join in the fun and reflect on the question posted by Maria Grazia which is: What would my life have been without Jane Austen? . Let's break it down to several parts, shall we? First of all, I don't think I am passionate about reading novels and books as I am now. I may have read a few books here and there and purchase them after viewing good film adaptations but my enthusiasm tends to fizzle out until the next thing caught my interest.
