Mr Darcy's Phoenix Giveaways for August 2022

It looks like mashing up Austen-themed stories with fantasy elements has gain a foothold within the Jane Austen fan fiction genre. Following Sarah Courtney's release celebration of A Season of Magic about a month ago, fellow Magical Austen member Lari Ann O'Dell has published a new Pride and Prejudice variation. Mr Darcy's Phoenix is the author's first foray into the magical realm but her fourth Austenesque novel after Mr. Darcy's Kiss, Mr. Darcy's Ship and Mr. Darcy's Clan.

If Maria Grace has dragons inhabiting her Jane Austen's Dragons series, Lari Ann's mythical creature of choice is phoenix. The story begins when Elizabeth Bennet awoke to a melodious song early one morning after her return to Longbourn from a magical seminary in London. Wandering into the gardens of Netherfield Park, she found the music emitted from a beautiful and majestic-looking phoenix. After touching the animal, she experienced a prophetic vision of an elegant gentleman whispering to the bird. Could he be Mr Bingley, the new resident who has just leased the Netherfield estate? Or is it his good friend the owner of Dante, the phoenix that is referenced in the title? True to canon, Mr Darcy uttered disparaging remarks about her at the summer solstice assembly within Elizabeth's hearing which hurt her feelings. How will Dante bring them together since we know they are meant for each other?

Just like her previous release, Lari Ann has arranged to participate in an online tour to several Austenite blogs. Keep an eye on some tempting excerpts, an enlightening guest post and a delightful review. She is also gifting four e-books of Mr Darcy's Phoenix. Unfortunately the giveaways have already ended at the time of posting but you are still welcomed to join in the revelry and show your support and love to the author.

Guest Post Thanks, Lúthien84, for having me as your guest today, on the blog tour for my newest book, The Darcy Legacy . I have often wondered how Elizabeth and Mr Darcy's courtship would have evolved, were it not for that ill-judged and so ungentlemanlike ' She is tolerable, I suppose... ' This is an angle I explored in The Darcy Legacy . What if their acquaintance did not start on the wrong foot? What if Mr Darcy did not hurt Elizabeth's feelings and her pride at the Meryton assembly — and if he did blunder, it was in a way that she co...

Excerpt Abigail and her father rode with the somber solicitor in a well-sprung post chaise hired for the occasion. They travelled for most of the day, on turnpikes and through toll gates, stopping to change horses and postilion riders at regular intervals, or to take a hurried meal at a coaching inn. Finally, they reached western Berkshire, its rolling hills and woodlands giving way to farms and chalk downs near its border with Wiltshire. They passed through the village of Caldwell, with a fine church, cloth mill and the Black Swan, which Mr. Arbeau pointed out as the nearest inn where they might sleep until they deemed the manor house...

Guest Post Thank you, Lúthien84, for your warm welcome. I am delighted to spend some time with you and my fellow Janeites. Unlike our beloved Miss Jane, I was not born in a scenic village in rural England. My family were neither descendant of landed gentry, nor were they Anglican. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and am the granddaughter of Russian Jews who escaped the pogroms, poverty and famine prior to the onse...

I'll hand it over to Regina now. Guest Post In my latest release, The Prosecution of Mr. Darcy's Cousin: A Pride and Prejudice Mystery , Darcy's cousin Major General Fitzwilliam (the former Colonel Fitzwilliam from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice ) suffers from what we would now call "PTSD". Yet, melancholia was also the diagnosis for the most s...
