The Redemption of Lydia Wickham Giveaways for August-September 2022

If you take a look at Pride and Prejudice-inspired titles published throughout the years since Jane Austen fan fiction became well known, it is a given that most authors choose to focus on Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Although this may be the case, stories featuring secondary characters such as Mary Bennet, Kitty Bennet, Georgiana Darcy, Anne de Bourgh and Colonel Fitzwilliam as the protagonists are gaining popularity nowadays. However there are even fewer novels that casts Lydia Bennet in a central role let alone atone for her past mistakes. Maria Grace's The Trouble to Check Her comes to mind. Now you can count on debut author MJ Stratton to deliver such a premise in The Redemption of Lydia Wickham.

In this fresh take on the youngest Bennet daughter, the foolish and impulsive Lydia soon regrets her choice of marrying the dastardly evil George Wickham. Unable to divorce him since it is rare for married spouses to legally dissolve their union at the time since it is an expensive undertaking and would harm both their reputations, she decided to remain by his side and learn how to make the best of her situation. Her family is not aware of her changed circumstances from the daughter of gentleman to a working class woman who have to fend for herself and skimp on food to make her allowance lasts. Fortunately fate is kind to Lydia when her abusive husband died fighting for his country. As she begins her life anew with her unborn child, will she able to find an enduring love with a man who respect and treat her for who she really is?

Whenever a new author publishes her/his first novel, you can be sure that a virtual tour is planned to introduce it to curious readers. This is true for MJ Stratton who has visited some well known Austenesque blogs with a few engrossing excerpts, enlightening guest post, character interview featuring Lydia Wickham and an author interview. The author is also bringing presents of three Kindle editions of The Redemption of Lydia Wickham but the worldwide contest has already closed on 6 September 2022. Nevertheless you can still head over to the sites and leave some encouraging words for MJ.

Guest Post Thanks, Lúthien84, for having me as your guest today, on the blog tour for my newest book, The Darcy Legacy . I have often wondered how Elizabeth and Mr Darcy's courtship would have evolved, were it not for that ill-judged and so ungentlemanlike ' She is tolerable, I suppose... ' This is an angle I explored in The Darcy Legacy . What if their acquaintance did not start on the wrong foot? What if Mr Darcy did not hurt Elizabeth's feelings and her pride at the Meryton assembly — and if he did blunder, it was in a way that she co...

Then check out the details of the giveaway at the bottom of the post which include the author's books and two Jane Austen-related items. Excerpt Abigail and her father rode with the somber solicitor in a well-sprung post chaise hired for the occasion. They travelled for most of the day, on turnpikes and through toll gates, stopping to change horses and postilion riders at regular intervals, or to take a hurried meal at a coaching inn. Finally, they reached western Berkshire, its rolling hills and woodlands giving way to farms and chalk downs near its border with Wiltshire. They passed through the village of Caldwell, with a fine church, cloth mill and the Black Swan, which Mr. Arbeau pointed out as the nearest inn where they might sleep until they deemed the manor house...

Guest Post Thank you, Lúthien84, for your warm welcome. I am delighted to spend some time with you and my fellow Janeites. Unlike our beloved Miss Jane, I was not born in a scenic village in rural England. My family were neither descendant of landed gentry, nor were they Anglican. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and am the granddaughter of Russian Jews who escaped the pogroms, poverty and famine prior to the onse...

A weekend double for loyal readers of the blog! Besides having J. Marie Croft visiting with a guest post for Sun-Kissed: effusions of summer , author Regina Jeffers has stopped by today to tell you about her latest Pride and Prejudice mystery, The Prosecution of Mr. Darcy's Cousin . Be sure to read her research into post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and an excerpt from the novel. On top of that there is also a giveaway to go along with the post. I'll hand it over to Regina now. Guest Post In my latest release, The Prosecution of Mr. Darcy's Cousin: A Pride and Prejudice Mystery , Darcy's cousin Major General Fitzwilliam (the former Colonel Fitzwilliam from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice ) suffers from what we would now call "PTSD". During the Regency there was no such distinction. The most one might consider as a diagnosis for the effects of many years in war was "melancholia". Yet, melancholia was also the diagnosis for the most s...
