Even though Austenesque authors are more incline to write stories about the main protagonist from Pride and Prejudice, there have been a shift to pen unique stories in recent years. As a result, there is an increase in the number of novels that focus solely on Mary, the unattractive middle daughter of the Bennet family. From traditional romance like Colleen McCullough's The Independence of Miss Mary Bennet, The Unexpected Miss Bennet by Patrice Sarath, Pamela Mingle's The Pursuit of Mary Bennet, The Forgotten Sister by Jennifer Paynter and Janice Hadlow's The Other Bennet Sister to the fantasy-themed Regency Mage series by Joyce Harmon, there is something for everyone. If you are eager to read mystery tales where Mary becomes an amateur detective, then look no further than Riana Everly's three books of Miss Mary Investigates series.

In the midst of the ongoing Napoleonic Wars, what if Elizabeth's younger sister plays a larger role in stopping Bonaparte's forces from invading England? That is the premise of Katherine Cowley's The Secret Life of Miss Mary Bennet. This newly published debut novel explores the possibility that Mary is a spy helping to defend her beloved country.

I think you should check it out as it is a relatively new concept that has not been fully explored on any Jane Austen's novels. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman: Book Review

Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★ After enduring a not very likeable Austenesque fiction in Karen V. Wasylowski's Darcy and Fitzwilliam which was reviewed several months ago, I was a little wary of reading any Austen-themed novels which caught my fancy because of its beautifully designed covers. After my colleague recommend me to try Maria Hamilton's debut novel, I made up my mind to read it next. It proved to be a wise choice for I spend many hours perusing this delightful Pride and Prejudice what-if story. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman begins after Fitzwilliam Darcy's disastrous marriage proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in Hunsford Parsonage, Kent. After thinking over her reasons for refusing him, Darcy decides to take her reproves to heart and tries to correct the mistakes that he committed in his past although unintentional done.
