Fortune & Felicity Giveaways for April-June 2020

After a two-year hiatus, Jane Austen Variations member Monica Fairview is back with the publication of a new Pride and Prejudice variation towards the end of last month. In Fortune & Felicity, Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet did not have the opportunity to put things right after the disastrous proposal at Hunsford. Much has changed in the seven years since they last saw each other. For starters they married someone else and their spouses are dead leaving both of them widowed. Darcy seem to fair much better with a young daughter who is in need for a governess. On the other hand Elizabeth has to fend for herself and look for a position to survive as her dead husband left her penniless. Thus it is in this situation that they are re-acquainted. Will they use this second chance to see past their faults and misunderstandings?

Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★ After enduring a not very likeable Austenesque fiction in Karen V. Wasylowski's Darcy and Fitzwilliam which was reviewed several months ago, I was a little wary of reading any Austen-themed novels which caught my fancy because of its beautifully designed covers. After my colleague recommend me to try Maria Hamilton's debut novel, I made up my mind to read it next. It proved to be a wise choice for I spend many hours perusing this delightful Pride and Prejudice what-if story. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman begins after Fitzwilliam Darcy's disastrous marriage proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in Hunsford Parsonage, Kent.
