Jane by the Sea Giveaways for July-August 2015

Janeites may be aware of the little-known story Cassandra Austen told her nieces and nephews in her twilight years. Many years before when Jane is still alive, she met the love of her life at a seaside resort. Alas the gentleman in question died before anything more could have happened. Scholars have since speculated who this man was and what his profession is. On the fictional side, a few authors used this information as a plot device in published novels such as Shannon Winslow's The Persuasion of Miss Jane Austen. Another such work is the recently released Jane by the Sea written by debut novelist Carolyn V. Murray.

If you wish to know more about the book and the author, you are fortunate as Carolyn is embarking on a short virtual trip. There are excerpts to read and chances to win copies of Jane by the Sea. Besides this the exciting news from yesterday as reported on Guardian UK is a new Jane Austen romance film is in the works which is based on this new novel.

Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★ After enduring a not very likeable Austenesque fiction in Karen V. Wasylowski's Darcy and Fitzwilliam which was reviewed several months ago, I was a little wary of reading any Austen-themed novels which caught my fancy because of its beautifully designed covers. After my colleague recommend me to try Maria Hamilton's debut novel, I made up my mind to read it next. It proved to be a wise choice for I spend many hours perusing this delightful Pride and Prejudice what-if story.
