Celebrate this Christmas Season with Jane Austen

This year's Christmas will be more pleasurable because several blogs are going to celebrate this festive season Jane Austen style. Here are some information that you should not miss for this promises to be fun and delightful with special giveaways sponsored by participating Austenesque authors and artisans.

One of my favourite Jane Austen-themed blogs to visit is Austenesque Reviews. Managed by the wonderful Meredith Esparza, she has hosted several virtual events in the past, the most recent being Austenesque Extravaganza 2012. A Jane Austen Christmas Celebration will begin on Friday, 30 November 2012 where there will be highlights on guest posts, interviews and live chat with Austenesque authors and artisans who are committed to take part. Of course giveaways are to be expected but so far there are no news yet on what books and gifts items readers may look forward to. Click on the banner for the schedule of events plus books and websites of gift shops that will be featured during this event.

Meredith's best pal and co-host for Austenesque Extravaganza 2012, Jakki Leatherberry, is organising a separate event on her own blog, Leatherbound Reviews. Starting Wednesday, 28 November 2012, excerpts of Austenesque and chick-lit novels that contain scenes of Christmas season will be posted to get you into the celebratory mood. In addition several authors will be donating copies of their books so visit Under the Mistletoe to get your dose of holiday spirit.

Krista Raven of Book Review Club is celebrating Christmas with Jane with her readers for the whole month of December. Join her as a select number of Austen-themed authors and bloggers have been engaged to guest posts and/or interviewed on her blog with some of them offering their books to be given away. For a list of participants, click on the banner below. You may want to take a look at the event schedule planned for this celebration such as mini challenges that tests your knowledge on Jane Austen trivia.

So remember to mark your calendars and check out the aforementioned blogs to get your hands on some Jane Austen goodies. Lastly, the Austenesque scout would like to wish all of her readers a blessed and joyous Christmas.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

Have you heard of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries which debuted on the web a couple of months ago? I think you should check it out as it is a relatively new concept that has not been fully explored on any Jane Austen's novels. Austenesque Book Giveaways for 14-20 March 2011

Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman: Book Review

Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★ After enduring a not very likeable Austenesque fiction in Karen V. Wasylowski's Darcy and Fitzwilliam which was reviewed several months ago, I was a little wary of reading any Austen-themed novels which caught my fancy because of its beautifully designed covers. After my colleague recommend me to try Maria Hamilton's debut novel, I made up my mind to read it next. It proved to be a wise choice for I spend many hours perusing this delightful Pride and Prejudice what-if story. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman begins after Fitzwilliam Darcy's disastrous marriage proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in Hunsford Parsonage, Kent. After thinking over her reasons for refusing him, Darcy decides to take her reproves to heart and tries to correct the mistakes that he committed in his past although unintentional done.
