Austenesque Book Giveaways for 21-27 November 2011

The Austenesque scout is delighted to announce great news regarding eight book contests for this week.

Maria Grazia who maintains her Fly High! blog has interviewed British author Ali McNamara whose latest novel Breakfast at Darcy's has just been released. Read what Ms McNamara has to say and leave your comment and email address here for an opportunity to win one of two books sponsored by her UK publisher, Little Brown. The books are a copy each of From Notting Hill with Love... Actually and Breakfast at Darcy's for two different winners. The good news is this giveaway is open worldwide and ends on Sunday, 27 November 2011.

Jane Odiwe is hosting a giveaway on her blog to win a copy of P. D. James' latest release novel called Death Comes to Pemberley courtesy of Ms James' UK publisher, Faber and Faber. If you want to enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post before next Tuesday, 29 November 2011 stating the reason you like to read the book.

Indie Jane is holding a giveaway for readers of their community. The prize is a signed paperback copy of His Good Opinion: A Mr. Darcy Novel for US and Canadian residents and an e-book format of your choice for the same book open to international entrants. They offer several methods to participate so please read the rules. The deadline for this competition is at 11.59 PST of next Monday, 28 November 2011.

Maria also has another giveaway on Fly High!. She has interviewed Katherine Ashe, author of the Montfort series who has kindly donated e-book copies of her four Montfort novels to one winner. All you have to do to win them is to leave a comment and email address at this post. This worldwide contest closes next Friday, 2 December 2011 when the winner's name is revealed.

Jane Greensmith is organising a giveaway for Barbara Cornwaite's second novel in her two-book series on George Knightley, Esquire which is titled as Lend Me Leave. The bad news is this giveaway is limited to US and Canadian residents only. Just leave a comment on this post and you can double your chances of winning by tweeting. Contest ends next Wednesday, 30 November 2011 at 8 pm MT.

Erin Blakemore talks Jane Austen on Maria Grazia's My Jane Austen Book Club. Erin's US publisher, Harper Perennial, is throwing in a paperback copy of her book, The Heroine's Bookshelf: Life Lessons, from Jane Austen to Laura Ingalls Wilder for US and Canadian readers who leave a comment at the interview. Be sure to include your email address in comment by next Thursday, 1 December 2011.

Carolyn Crist of Vicariously Jane Austen has conducted an interview with Barbara Tiller Cole who self-published her second Austen-inspired novel titled Fitzwilliam Ebenezer Darcy. Leave a comment here detailing the crossover story you like to do and you will be in the running to win Fitzwilliam Ebenezer Darcy which Barbara has kindly donated. This contest also closes next Thursday, 1 December 2011.

I think you should check it out as it is a relatively new concept that has not been fully explored on any Jane Austen's novels. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman: Book Review

Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★ After enduring a not very likeable Austenesque fiction in Karen V. Wasylowski's Darcy and Fitzwilliam which was reviewed several months ago, I was a little wary of reading any Austen-themed novels which caught my fancy because of its beautifully designed covers. After my colleague recommend me to try Maria Hamilton's debut novel, I made up my mind to read it next. It proved to be a wise choice for I spend many hours perusing this delightful Pride and Prejudice what-if story. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman begins after Fitzwilliam Darcy's disastrous marriage proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in Hunsford Parsonage, Kent. After thinking over her reasons for refusing him, Darcy decides to take her reproves to heart and tries to correct the mistakes that he committed in his past although unintentional done.
