Austenesque Book Giveaways for 7-13 February 2011

The Austenesque scout is pleased to tell her readers about four giveaways of three novels reported this week on the blogosphere.

Alexa Adams of First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice is hosting a giveaway to win a copy of The Three Weissmanns of Westport courtesy of the publisher, Picador. Written by Cathleen Schine, the paperback version of this Sense and Sensibility modernisation was released just last week. Take note that this contest is only open to US residents. If you fit the bill and would love to be entered, just comment here with your email address by next Wednesday, 16 February 2011. For a second entry, please refer to her post.

Jane Greensmith is also organising a giveaway of the same book at her blog. If you want to win a paperback copy direct from Picador, comment here with your email address as well. You can also tweet or Facebook this giveaway to earn extra entries but do inform her in your comment. Deadline for this contest is next Tuesday, 15 February 2011 at 10 pm MT.

Over at My Jane Austen Book Club, Maria Grazia has interviewed Michael Thomas Ford in her weekly Jane Austen interview column. Mr. Ford is the author of a trilogy of books about Jane Austen as a vampire in contemporary times which consists of Jane Bites Back, the just release Jane Goes Batty and the upcoming release scheduled for next year, Jane Vows Vengeance. There is a giveaway of a copy of Jane Goes Batty to a lucky reader who leave a comment plus email address here before next Wednesday, 16 February 2011. The bad news is this contest is only open to US and Canadian residents. Nevertheless, you can read the interview at this post.

Lastly, Maria Grazia has posted an interview with Ann Swinfen at her other blog, Fly High!. Ms Swinfen is the author of four novels: The Anniversary, The Travellers, A Running Tide and The Testament of Mariam. She has kindly donated a copy of The Testament of Mariam to readers of Fly High! who gladly leave a comment here. Be sure to leave your email address in your comment. This contest is open worldwide and ends next Saturday, 19 February 2011.

Have you heard of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries which debuted on the web a couple of months ago? I think you should check it out as it is a relatively new concept that has not been fully explored on any Jane Austen's novels. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman: Book Review

Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★ After enduring a not very likeable Austenesque fiction in Karen V. Wasylowski's Darcy and Fitzwilliam which was reviewed several months ago, I was a little wary of reading any Austen-themed novels which caught my fancy because of its beautifully designed covers. After my colleague recommend me to try Maria Hamilton's debut novel, I made up my mind to read it next. It proved to be a wise choice for I spend many hours perusing this delightful Pride and Prejudice what-if story. Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman begins after Fitzwilliam Darcy's disastrous marriage proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in Hunsford Parsonage, Kent. After thinking over her reasons for refusing him, Darcy decides to take her reproves to heart and tries to correct the mistakes that he committed in his past although unintentional done.
