Everything Austen II Challenge

Here's a challenge that I would love to participate. Stephanie's blog, The Written Word is hosting the Everything Austen II for readers of Jane Austen's novels and movies. The challenge will run for 6 months beginning 1 July 2010 until 1 January 2011. Participants need only pick up 6 Austen-themed things to complete them before the deadline.

What is considered Austen-themed things? Of course reading any Jane Austen's novels counts towards this challenge. So if you're planning to read or re-read her novels, now is the time. In addition, movies or television mini-series adaptations based on her novels are also accepted. There's more! You can also choose to read the prequels, sequels, retellings or variations based on Jane or her novels written by various authors that is available in the market or even listen to audiobooks. For a creative person, he/she can choose to do craft projects like cross-stitch patterns inspired by Jane Austen. The choice is up to you and you can mix up your options. As an example, you can read 3 books and watch 3 movies as long as there are 6 Austen things involved.

Check out the details for joining this challenge. And if you find that 6 things are too little to feed your Austen addiction, why not challenge yourself to double it to 12 just like Laurel Ann at Austenprose? She has pledged to complete reading 12 books.

As an added incentive just for signing up, you will be qualified to win a signed book of Scones and Sensibility by Lindsay Eland. In order to win, you just need to post about the Everything Austen II challenge in your blog and sign up at here by 15 July 2010. However, only participants from continental US (Hawaii and US territorial islands such as Puerto Rico, etc. are excluded) will be in the drawing to win this book although anyone from around the world can join this challenge.

Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★ After enduring a not very likeable Austenesque fiction in Karen V. Wasylowski's Darcy and Fitzwilliam which was reviewed several months ago, I was a little wary of reading any Austen-themed novels which caught my fancy because of its beautifully designed covers. After my colleague recommend me to try Maria Hamilton's debut novel, I made up my mind to read it next. It proved to be a wise choice for I spend many hours perusing this delightful Pride and Prejudice what-if story.
