Rating for both books: ★★★★★/★★★★★
Both of these lovely Jane Austen Companion was recently released by Sourcebooks as part of their 2010 Spring Catologue. Sourcebooks is an independent publishing house which is hailed as the leading publisher of Jane Austen related fiction.
Personally, I love both gift books which contain some quotes taken from Jane Austen's novels and letters on the subject of life and love. A beautifully design cover using Jane Austen handwriting for the title and packaged as hardcover, each book is about 60 pages in length with original illustrations by the famous Charles Edmund Brock and his brother, Henry Matthew Brock. The Brock brothers is known to illustrate period books particularly Austen's novels between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
Each page is devoted to Austen's advice with Brock's art on the left page. Austen's advice will sure to guide readers to find happiness and contentment, just as the heroines in her novels always do. On the other hand, The Jane Austen Companion to Life is full of Austen's most honest thoughts on life, from practical to lighthearted to philosophic.
If you are an Austen lover, do get both books at your nearest bookstore. Reasonable priced and totally unique on its own, this is a must have for all Jane Austen fans.
I don't know about you but I find that Brock's illustrations are difficult to purchase except bound together with expensive first editions of Austen's books compared to Hugh Thomson's black and white line drawings which is widely available. In my opinion, Sourcebooks really hit the nail with these 2 books.
If you live in Malaysia and would like to purchase these gift books, then head to Kinokuniya Book Store in KLCC. Or if you would like to order the books online, click here and here. I guarantee you will not regret owning these gift books.

My idea of good company, is the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation; that is what I call good company.
Would you like to have a share of the conversation? Or found any mistakes that need correcting? It would be very much appreciated if you leave a comment. Thank you for taking the time to visit My Love for Jane Austen.
